Spectera insurance and OptumHealth Vision patients are now within network at Torrington Eyecare. We had many patients suggest that we start participating on the Spectera Vision Insurance and OptumHealth Vision Insurance panels, so as of today we are proud to announce that we have successfully completed the credentialing process and our doctors are now approved to see both Spectera and Optum patients with in network benefits.

In keeping with our goal to provide 100% patient satisfaction, we are always open to suggestions, and we are happy to do our best to accommodate requests such as joining additional insurance panels to support our patients. An article in Bloomberg News yesterday reports, “Almost four decades after bionic implants created the fictional Six Million Dollar Man, scientists are far from being able to replicate a fully functioning human eye, let alone the one with zoom and infrared capabilities of Steve Austin, Lee Majors’ character in the 1970s television show. The most advanced attempts have produced pixilated images in monochrome.” However, “as many as 20 groups worldwide [are] trying to reproduce vision that’s closer to that enjoyed by sighted people,” mostly through the use of retinal implants.

The moral of this story is that we still only have one set of eyes, and if they are not taken care of, there are no replacement parts available.  As an Optometrist, I feel it is strange that my patients have no trouble seeing their Dentist every 6 months, even though dental implants, prosthetics, and dentures are available, but when it comes to routine eye care, most people do not understand the benefits of a yearly dilated eye exams.

Given the fact that bionic eye balls are still only found in fiction movies and novels, preventative eye care is the ONLY cure for blindness.

If you work for the city of Torrington you may have noticed that as of July 1st, your insurance has changed from Anthem Blue Cross to Cigna Health and Cigna Vision.  If you are currently a patient of Opticare, any commercially owned optical (Lenscrafters, Pearl Vision, Target, Sears, Walmart, etc), or any of the Ophthalmology groups located in Torrington, you may have noticed that they are no longer in network with your plan and you may be forced to seek a new provider.

Cigna Vision requires that participating providers meet stringent business requirements and guidelines to maintain a position on their panel. We are happy to announce that we have met all of these requirements and our office is 1 of only 2 in network practices in Torrington, CT.

We understand that it is difficult to change doctors and we will work very hard to ensure that your merge into our practice is as easy and seamless as possible.  At first the benefits of Cigna Vision may seem difficult to understand, even overwhelming at times, however our staff members have been specialty trained in authorizing and submitting claims to Cigna Vision to ensure that all of your questions can be answered and your experience at our office is as pleasant and trouble free as possible.

In anticipation of the Cigna Vision changeover, we have extended our evening and weekend hours to accommodate the schedules of our hard working teachers, board of education members, and city of Torrington municipal workers. Good news! Our office will be open every Saturday starting next week, however we will be closed on our normally scheduled Saturday on July 21st in preparation for the upcoming schedule change.

Our office schedule has changed for the week of July9th-16th 2012.  We are typically closed on Mondays, however on July 9th 2012 we will be open from 11-7, and will be closed on Wednesday July 11th 2012.

Our hours will remain the same for the week and future weeks will not be affected by this change.

Our doctors and staff are proud to announce Dr. Angela Yang as the newest edition to the growing family of eyecare professionals at Torrington Eyecare.  As an Optometrist in our practice, Dr. Yang will become a full time practitioner providing the same exceptional family eyecare that you have come to know and expect from Drs. Sirignano, D’Angelo, and Austin.

We are seeking a medical billing specialist, front desk attendant and high end sales rep for a rapidly growing Optometry practice. For all three positions we are seeking reliable, up beat and professional candidates to grow with us. Many opportunities for advancement are open to the most motivated of applicants. These positions are both part time and full time.

With regards to the front desk and billing specialists we are seeking self starting, detail oriented, up-beat and friendly people who are excellent team players and who work well under pressure. Patient relations are of paramount importance, so if you can remain calm during stressful interactions, you might be the candidate we’re looking for. Degree not required but strongly preferred, computer savvy applicants only.

Those interested in the sales position must be comfortable with high end sales and have an interest in high fashion. Impeccable interpersonal skills are a must.

Overall we’re looking for reliable, organized, efficient candidates who are comfortable with patient interaction and are willing to work hard as a team to build the practice further.
